» New Astra to Debut in 2010, Possible 250bhp 4x4 VXR!
Apr 11, 2009 - by MikeWarner
What we have here are reported to be official renderings from General Motors of the next-generation Vauxhall Astra line, including the hatchback, sporthatch and the Estate. Due out in Europe as a 2010 model, the redesigned Astra will feature many design cues from the well received mid-size Insignia, including swept back headlamps, concave surfacing and a more soft appearance than the all-angles current Astra.

The sporthatch model also appears to have shape shifted from its current form as a hatchback to a coupe (sportcoupe?). The profile of the Estate model, meanwhile, gets some extra rear overhang versus the five-door hatch and a forward-tilting D-pillar.

The model will reach the US, too, wearing a Saturn badge. Diesel isn’t so popular there, but the car’s close relationship with the Volt means a hybrid petrol drivetrain will be available for the first time. A FlexFuel bio ethanol model will be offered as well.

In Europe, though,... [Read More]

» Art Car to Star at Heritage Centre Drive it Day!
Mar 24, 2009 - by MikeWarner
Fans of classic and vintage vehicles are gearing up for ‘Drive it Day’ on April 26th – the one day a year where owners of old cars, bikes and trucks are encouraged to take to the road and celebrate the freedom of motoring.

And to mark the occasion, Vauxhall is once again opening up its Heritage Centre as a Drive it Day destination – with a very special guest.

25-year old Ian Cook is widely regarded for his unusual car-related artwork, which he creates by using old tyres and remote control models to drive through the paint, creating images of famous cars and people from the world of motoring. Ian will mark Drive it Day by creating an image of the Heritage Centre’s distinctive turquoise PA Velox live at the show – a car widely regarded as Vauxhall’s boldest classic design.

His most recent work, an image of the Vauxhall Astra 4S, was created at the Race Retro show earlier this month, and was signed by the car’s original test driver, Russell... [Read More]

» Insignia Sports Tourer is Vauxhall's New Estate of the Nation
Mar 24, 2009 - by MikeWarner
Despite the current economic malaise, Vauxhall’s 2009 European Car of the Year has been a resounding success, bucking a downward sales trend with more than 15,000 orders taken in the first month of the car reaching dealer showrooms in the UK.

Enhancing the range still further on April 10 is the Sports Tourer model, the third significant body style in the Insignia’s line-up and the first new model to be added since the car’s launch.

Retaining the hatch and saloon’s rakish, but graceful silhouette, the Sports Tourer is available with all the class-leading innovation found in the current range, such as FlexRide, Intelligent AFL and Adaptive 4x4, but with enhanced practicality, thanks to a 540-litre load area with the rear seats up. Dropping the 60:40 split rear seats converts the Sports Tourer into an even more capacious load-lugger, with a volume of up to 1530-litres.

Wrapping this practicality in a sporty, premium body was a challenge set... [Read More]

» Vauxhall Ampera to Debut in 2012 - With Videos
Mar 02, 2009 - by MikeWarner
The revolutionary Ampera today celebrated its world premiere at the 79th Geneva Motor Show. General Motors Europe president, Carl-Peter Forster, announced that a right-hand drive Vauxhall Ampera would go into production in 2012.

“The Ampera further demonstrates GM’s leadership in the electrification of the automobile,” said Carl-Peter Forster. “Its ground-breaking Voltec electric propulsion system is the kind of game-changing technology the automotive industry needs to respond to energy and environmental challenges.”

The five-door, four-seat Ampera features Vauxhall’s new design language, first introduced on the 2009 European Car of The Year award-winning Insignia, incorporating several styling cues from the innovative Flextreme and GTC Concept show cars.

The Ampera’s wheels are turned electrically at all times and speeds. For journeys up to around 40-miles, it runs on electricity stored in the 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery, and emits zero... [Read More]

» Grab Some Team Spirit with Vauxhall's New VX Racing Models
Feb 28, 2009 - by MikeWarner
Luton – With the 2009 BTCC season almost upon us, Vauxhall has just launched two stunning limited editions based on the Corsa and Astra VXR to celebrate VX Racing’s success in the 2008 British Touring Car Championship.

Known as the Corsa and Astra VX Racing Editions, they will have a combined production run of 888 cars. And that number just happens to coincide with the name of Vauxhall’s race experts, Triple Eight Engineering, who build and prepare all the VX Racing Cars and contributed so much to Vauxhall’s triumph in the BTCC last season when it won the BTCC’s Drivers’, Manufacturers’ and Team championships.

As well as sharing the VX Racing team colours of red and black, all VX Racing Editions gain full leather Recaro seats as standard. The VX Racing theme continues outside the car with logos on the B-posts and tread plates, too.

And just to make sure that you’d never mistake a VX Racing Edition from an ‘ordinary’ Corsa or Astra VXR,... [Read More]

» VXR8 Bathurst Edition Deals Blower Punch to Rivals
Feb 28, 2009 - by MikeWarner
Few will claim that Vauxhall’s storming VXR8 super-saloon is lacking in the power stakes, but just in case there were any doubters, the Bathurst S Edition will put them straight or indeed sideways...

Thanks to the addition of a Walkinshaw Performance 122 Supercharger, the Bathurst S dispenses 560 V8 horsepower, compared with the standard car’s 431 horsepower, and produces searing acceleration throughout the rev-range and a spine-tingling, banshee wail when you hit the loud pedal.

The Bathurst S Edition joins the normally aspirated Bathurst Edition at the top of the Vauxhall family tree, with both cars receiving a raft of technical and cosmetic upgrades over the standard VXR8. Only a limited number of Bathurst Editions will be sold through selected Vauxhall retailers.

To exploit the Bathurst’s greater power potential, six-pot front and four-pot rear callipers are now standard on both models, along with stiffer, height-adjustable springs and... [Read More]

» All-New Astra Set to Debut in 2009
Nov 23, 2008 - by MikeWarner
With its flowing lines and signature sculpted blade, the new Astra will carry the spirit of the Insignia into the compact class, offering customers a premium feel, while maintaining Vauxhall’s value for money promise.

Inside, the premium theme will continue, with a warm, wrap-around interior and a wing-line sweep that links the instrument panel to the door.

An all-new chassis promises to maintain the Astra’s reputation for class-leading dynamics, while new engines will maximise low-end torque to achieve miserly fuel consumption.

Also expect to see clever and practical features on the new Astra, taking inspiration from systems like the Corsa’s FlexFix integrated carrier.

The new Astra will major on technical innovation, such as the Front Camera System used in the upcoming Insignia, which combines traffic sign recognition with a lane departure system, improving occupant safety and potentially helping drivers avoid fines.

» Get Your VXR the 888 Touch - With Video
Nov 23, 2008 - by MikeWarner
Triple Eight provide a raft of different tuning parts for all VXR models, but as you can see from the attached film clip, our tame race driver is showcasing all the modifications available on the taut and rapid Astra VXR. Opt for the Remus exhaust, and not only will you get a taste of what our BTCC drivers hear as they accelerate out of Woodcote bend, but you’ll also get up to 20PS of extra power – and all for just £850 fitted.

Of course, the Astra VXR can take more power, and that’s why Triple Eight can ‘adapt’ your ECU to liberate a further 49PS, bringing with it a performance hit that would keep Mr Giovanardi happy for more than a lap or two.

But power is nothing without control, which is why Triple Eight offer a wheel and tyre package, comprising bespoke 18”, heat-treated wheels with 235/40 x 18 Toyo Proxy tyres for £1380. Complementing this is the VX Racing brake kit, developed with AP Racing, which includes... [Read More]
